About Us
Welcome to the beautiful Lower South Coast of KwaZulu-Natal.

The natural beauty, warm climate, pristine beaches, fishing, diving, whale-watching, nature reserves teeming with wildlife, arts and crafts routes, golf courses, affordable accommodation and fabulous cuisine and likeable locals make this a perfect, all-year-round family holiday destination, with something for everyone to really enjoy!
The warm Indian Ocean teems with life and is a paradise for rock anglers, surfers and swimmers. Nature-loving visitors can experience a whole new world of adventure beyond the breakers by taking dolphin and whale- watching trips up and down the coast.

Humpbacked and Southern Right Whales can often be spotted off the coast from July to November as they move north to their breeding grounds in Mozambique before journeying back to the icy waters of Antarctica. Being able to watch these magnificent creatures in their natural environment is an awesome experience. From the shore they can be spotted by keeping a watchful eye out for water spouts, indicating that a pod of whales is on the move. Bottlenose Dolphins in their pods of between 30 – 50 can often be spotted just beyond the breakers – a thrilling sight.

Every year around June/July “sardine fever” hits the south Coast and this is an incredible sight to behold and must be seen to be believed. Millions of these little fish migrate northwards each year and the shoals attract game fish such as sharks, yellow tails and barracuda.

With the ocean feeding frenzy comes the bird life – cape gannets circle and dive constantly, often gorging themselves into oblivion, making flying a rather difficult task to accomplish!

Occasionally the sardines beach and this causes great excitement as fishermen with nets and locals with anything they can carry, scoop up the little fish in their masses.

The Lower South Coast is not just about the beach – one can head inland and discover the beautiful countryside. Head up the scenic Izingolweni Road, just outside Port Edward (the last coastal town along the Lower South Coast) and try rock-climbing or absailing off the Umtamvuna Gorge. If you are not an adrenalin junkie, there are great hiking areas to explore, with abundant bird life and magnificent scenery. Experience the quaint little craft shops, restaurants and galleries dotted along the way.

Take a leisurely boat trip on the Umtamvuna River lagoon with its picturesque cliffs and visit the Umtamvuna Nature Reserve which has many rare plants and small wildlife with views of the river that will take your breath away.

For great entertainment, The Wild Coast Sun is on your doorstep, so try your luck on the roulette wheel or venture out on a horse-riding trail that takes you onto unspoilt beaches into lush coastal forests.

The Lower South Coast has superb golf courses.   Four of these courses, Selbourne Country Club, Southbroom Golf Club, San Lameer Country Club and the Wild Coast Country club are rated among the top 50 courses in South Africa.  They are set in magnificent scenic, sub-tropical surroundings and the courses cater for beginners and professionals.
